Dildos

What is a dildo?

Well, Webster’s dictionary defines it simply as “an artificial substitute for an erect penis.” It differs from a vibrator in that it doesn’t vibrate. In other words a vibrator can be used as a dildo, but not visa versa. Dildos are intended to do one thing: Act as a replacement or substitute for a hard-on.

For our purposes, let’s just say it’s a cylindrically shaped sex toy that gets inserted into some bodily orifice for sexual pleasure. People make use of dildos for a variety of purposes, hence the variety of shapes and sizes. Although a woman can orgasm through clitoral stimulation, many can enjoy the feeling of penetration and thrusting and say that it greatly intensifies their orgasm. Many women (and men) for that matter also derive sexual pleasure from using small dildos for anal stimulation during intercourse or masturbation.

Why buy a dildo?

Well, a dildo can keep the party going longer and stronger. An experienced lover can bring his partner to orgasm several times before engaging in the real thing. Think of it as a way to save the best for last. Selecting a dildo that your partner will enjoy involves a number of factors.

Dildos come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, as well as differences in length, thickness, hardness and texture. The most common materials are silicone and latex. Silicone is more expensive but it has the added qualities of matching body temperature and life-like resistance.

Don’t be tempted to get a large dildo, but rather select one that closely resembles a typical erection…anywhere from five to eight inches. We do carry some of the foot-long numbers, but I can’t imagine who would use one, and we don’t sell as many of the larger ones.

That smaller two to three inch dildo is actually a sex-toy referred to as a butt-plug. It has a bulge in the center; much like a spindle and the shaft gradually thickens, flares and then narrows again. The theory is that once inside the rectal cavity, the flare of a well-chosen butt-plug will rub directly against the anal nerves.

For the female it heightens vaginal stimulation. For men it stimulates the prostate and will intensify his orgasm. The use of a butt-plug or anal dildo has mixed reviews. To some people, this can be an extremely pleasurable experience. To others, it can be an intensely uncomfortable one. You never know until you try.
